The government has said that secondary school students sitting exams next year - Year 10s and 12s - are on track to start receiving face-to-face support from their school from Monday 15th June. But they don’t expect these students to return full-time. The government has also published guidance for families with children in secondary school.

Bashir Jabbarkhail, a student from The Thetford Academy, was part of Sky Sports' celebration of Chance to Shine's 15th anniversary. Bashir Jabbarkhail is part of the national cricket charity, Chance to Shine, which works in state schools and communities across England and Wales. He has won the Street Participant of the Year Award and has previously spoken to the EDP about how cricket changed his life.

The Thetford Academy has been rated as good by Ofsted. The report says that the school has “a curriculum that ensures pupils deepen their thinking” and that pupils “feel valued and cared for”. Ofsted said teachers make sure ‘pupils are not left behind’ and that Year 11 maths, science and modern foreign language progress was in the top 20% of schools nationally last year.

It's been announced that phased school returns could happen from 1 June (after half term) at the earliest. The Prime Minister has said this will be done in stages, beginning with Reception, Year 1 and Year 6.

A team from The Thetford Academy is creating 1,000 pieces of PPE for two Thetford care homes. They launched the project after seeing that care homes locally were struggling to purchase PPE during the Covid-19 crisis.

A generous £70k donation has been made to the Inspiration Trust family of schools - which we are a part of - to help us to support our communities during the coronavirus crisis. Each of the 14 schools within the trust has received a donation of £5k.

Schools will be closed from next week for all children except those of key workers and children who are the most vulnerable. This means most children's last day in school will be Friday 20th March. We do not know when schools will reopen. Our trust has published a Q&A to help answer any questions.
